Changelog for sigma-consolefonts. 2011-01-17 Reshaped U+004D to get a better point, and U+0431 to be a curved version. Released as 0.8. 2011-01-16 Added a few U+f8xx mappings to match some latin1 fonts, and mapped some currencies to the number sign. 2011-01-15 After looking at cyrillic SHHA and shha in detail, both should be the same height as other cyrillic capitals - I'd mapped the lowercase to latin h which is taller. Separated this for general, cyrillic, LatGrkCyr maps. 2011-01-14 Reworked U+00AE - it's still difficult to read, but for me less bad than it was Mapped U+212A. 2011-01-13 Added U+0218..B. Made sure that small kappa is same as obsolete kra, so that I can use kappa as the primary letter. Finished arranging the initial map for LatGrkCyr. It now includes several symbols that I found in iso01-12x22, just in case anybody needs them. 2011-01-10 Separate single angled quotes U+2039 U+203A from less-than and greater-than in LatGrkCyr, and alter their shapes in the font to better match the double angled quotes. 2011-01-09 Bump RELEASE in Makefile to 0.8 so I don't forget. Most of the changes are to assist me in making a LatGrkCyr map to align with what I'm now using in a 12x22 font on some of my machines with kms. Added more whitespace variants - U+2000-200a and U+202f - to general and cyrillic maps, and (only) U+202f to latin1 and latin2 ( narrow no-break space, apparently used in french and czech ). These space variants are now all available in kbd (development version), but with the exception of U+202f I will be very surprised if they are ever used. Removed character < U+0020 from the maps. Separated the acute accent from the right single quote. Changed the mapping of U+0027, U+2019 to apparently map both to U+0027. In fact, the glyphs in this font are identical! In general.sfm, map U+0413 to U+0393, and U+0445 to U+0078 since they are identical. Create LatGrkCyr.sfm, initially from general.sfm. 2010-08-23 Some tidying up of the alphabet examples. Version 0.7 - this time I remembered to bump RELEASE 2010-08-22 William Immendorf reported that lynx was showing a left arrow when googling. Finally got round to this, it can also show a right arrow, and even a triangle in google news. I've added these to the general and cyrillic maps. [ later update - it's nothing to do with googling. These left and right arrows are when history is available, but in my normal limited use of lynx google is the only place where I ever see them. ] 2009-04-13 I noticed that man.1 and its translations in man-db-2.5.5 uses U+00d7 (multiplication) which was not rendered in my main maps - added (or mapped to 'x' if no spare glyphs). Version 0.6 (but it installed docs as 0.5) 2008-12-29 Added U+2026 (ellipsis) to african, caucasian, cyrillic, general, vietnamese maps because the current version of trac put it in the mails. Version 0.5 2008-06-01 I realised that installing the fonts to /lib and the docs to /usr/local/share is somewhat inconsistent. I s'pose I'd better make the fonts default to /usr/local/lib. For my own sanity, bumping the version to 0.4. 2008-05-26 There is now a compromise form of cornish - Standard Written Form - for mutual intelligibility between the various forms, so I've added this to the alphabets. 2008-02-29 After Jeremiah Davis asked me why the quotes look like end quotes, I remembered that I'd intended to fix that a _long_ while ago. Changed all the maps to use U+0022 instead of U+201d. The single quote remains as apostrophe. Thanks for the reminder. With luck, this will be good enough for 0.3. 2008-02-26 Tried to reshape U+00F0 (eth). Added U+019F, U+0275 to general.sfm for tatar in the latin alphabet, and U+016C, U+016D for belarusian łacinka - corrected the latin example to use these (u-breve) instead of u-caron. 2008-01-29 Dropped the "alternative traditional" glyphs from the example venetian alphabet - I found they weren't all in my "general" map and when I tried to check what I'd looked at before, I could no longer find the page. Tarred up as 0.2 for local testing. (This didn't get released) 2008-01-15 Reworked variants of 'g' to correct the gaps in the vertical line (U+0067, U+011D, U+011F, U+0121, U+0123, U+01E5, U+01E7, U+01F5, U+1E21). Add © (copyright symbol) to general map. Some more examples of alphabets, including venetian. 2007-08-08 Applied patch from Adam Sampson to correct the bdf file so that bdftopcf works. 2007-08-07 Now that there is some space in the general map, added Naira, Hryvnia, and Cedi symbols. Bumping the version to 0.1, there won't ever be very many releases so two digits seems silly. 2007-08-05 Added alphabets for sami languages written in latin alphabet (Inari, Lule, Skolt, South, Northern) and corrected a 'xx' in Portuguese. 2007-07-28 Added dzhe to caucasian map, I'd forgotten it is used in abkhasian, and changed palochka to map to latin I (glyphs are identical). Added INSTALL file. 2007-07-21 Merged the older changelogs into this one, it's small enough to keep it in one piece. 2007-07-20 Reduce base on 'l' and its variants to help distinguish it from '1'. Apply same change to 'i'. Further changes to greek glyphs - thanks to Ag. Hatzimanikas and Lefteris Dimitroulakis - and add the separate diacriticals to the polytonic map so that revelation.txt from the ucs examples all renders. 2007-07-17 Added łacinka alphabet. Increased height of U+1F08, U+1F09. 2007-07-16 Corrected references to belarusian (one s). 2007-07-15 Finished greek. Correct the accent on U+0403 Gje and the order of the macedonian alphabet. Add U+055A (armenian apostrophe) as synonym for quote in caucasian map. Move accents on U+1E3C, U+1E3D (L,l with circumflex below) away from the baseline. Correct comment for U+00c8 in general.sfm to show È in stead of Ë. Extend polytonic map for neighbouring languages. Use similar mappings for quotes in all map files. 2007-07-13 Add a polytonic map. Review letter forms for all accented greek letters. 2007-07-04 Reshape greek mu. Correct breton alphabet (my dead key was showing instead of â) and improve the link to point to the exact page. 2007-07-03 Reshape W and accented variants to 7 wide - it looks better without the 'bold' centre. 2007-07-01 Reshape capital M (latin, cyrillic EM, greek MU, EM eith tail). Corrected italian alphabet (it had two capital Ì). 2007-06-26 Greek ano teleia (also bullet) was missing from general map. 2007-06-21 Builds better if I remember to include the Makefile when creating the package. Tidied up attributions and comments on african alphabets. Fixed typo in Russian alphabet (two ф letters, missing г). Versioned as 0.01rc0. 2007-06-14 The bulgarian manpage for makewhatis has an acute accent as a quote, at least when iconv'd. Add U+00b4 to all maps which missed it. In general.sfm it is aliased to single quote. Removed a bogus ě from a position in the vietnamese map that was labelled as unused. 2007-06-02 Makefile seems to work adequately, and I can no longer see any obvious errors in the maps or the example data. Ready to test a bit more widely. 2007-05-20 Added U+0587, U+20B1,2,4,5, U+2113, U+2319, U+2581, U+25B6, U+25C0, U+25CE, U+2638, U+266C. Some of these are only so that I can attempt to replicate what seems to be in the drdos font and they have only a tenuous link to their normal forms because of the limitations of an 8x16 cell. In practice, drdos doesn't map these to unicode values (I had to guess what they were) so it is very unlikely that anything will ever use them. 2007-05-19 Altered (single) grave and acute accents so that they are less likely to split into left and right blocks on a large monitor. Added U+04C5-6, U+04C9-A, U+04CD-E, U+04EC-D, U+04F6-7. 2007-05-18 Reshaped 0 and £. Changed 1/4, 1/2, 3/4. Consolidated the dots ('i', dot above, dot below) to two-wide one-high instead of vice-versa, except U+1E66 U+1E67 which are unfixable in the 8x16 format and unlikely to ever be required. 2007-05-15 Removed redundant whitespace 2007-04-27 Copied e-grave glyph to cyrillic ie-grave 2007-04-25 Corrected descenders on U+04AA, U+04AB to *reversed* ogonek 2007-04-18 Changed lowercase g to open form (like 'helvetica' instead of 'times' and altered the descenders of p,q,j,y (effectively, raised the baseline to make their descenders more prominent). Also changed the ascenders of k,l,t (they had been shorter than the rest). Added glyph for U+FFFD. 2007-04-17 Reshaped cedillas and ogoneks. Altered Eng, curly brackets, and T-stroke. 2007-04-14 changed the glyph names to U+xxxx form so that I can find my way around. 2007-04-13 Moved one line (typically 4th or 5th) from "above the baseline" to "below the baseline". This doesn't affect drawing characters and for arabic, hebrew it merely realigns them in their cell, but for the rest it allows a slightly longer descender. It also means that accents above letters are now closer (only one row away from the letter, but conversely accents below the baseline can be moved lower where appropriate (so far, only addressed for venda letters). Also reduced the hieight of the breves. Changed some of the caron glyphs so that they look like apostrophes, to match typesetting practice. In an ideal world, latin lowercase letters would probably have four lines of descender, but that impacts too much on the forms I'm starting from (particularly, consider letters with stacked accents, whether livonian or vietnamese).
